SLZB-06 for Zigbee and Matter – Recommendations?

Hi,

I’m currently using an SLZB-06 for Zigbee, and I noticed that it’s also compatible with Matter — but it seems you can’t run both protocols simultaneously.

Would you recommend buying a second SLZB-06, or should I consider one of the newer models for Matter support? I saw that some versions already support multiple antennas. Are there any recommendations for running both Zigbee and Matter on a single device?

Thanks in advance!

I would not. The recommendations for a Zigbee coordinator are to keep the coordinator as for away as possible from other sources of 2.4 radios. The SLZB-MR(1-2-3) have their radios next to each other, which is in my opinion a bad design. Thread (for matter) uses 2.4
Although I purchased this week a SLZB-MRW10 (a Zigbee/Thread radio + a Zwave radio)
Zwave does not use 2.4

I bought a SLZB-07 to use as a Thread Border Router since I already have a Skyconnect for Zigbee. You have to flash it though since it only works with Zigbee out of the box so that’s what I did.

It has only been a week but so far so good. My two thread devices haven’t dropped out once where as they did constantly when I was using my Nest Wifi as my TBR. Only time will tell if it stays that way, but I’m hopeful.

I bought the MR2 recently and thought the dual radios would be an issue. So far it hasn’t and I’m running Z2M and thread from the device.

I’ll have to check out the MR10. I still have some Z wave devices I shelved when I went with ZigBee

I had the same thought — the downside of using just one device is that if it fails, both networks (Zigbee and Matter) go offline. With two devices, I’d not only have some redundancy (since I already own one), but I could also place them in separate locations for better coverage.

That said, to be honest, I do prefer the simplicity of a single device — it’s cleaner and easier to manage.

Cant decide :frowning: i dont know if they will drop support for matter because of newer Chips soon? Or matter will decide kompatibility with a special Chip.

I go with slzb mr2.

I think the firmware will handle maybe collisions.

IT looks nicer and less to maintain because only one system.

If i would choose 06m i have to separate them min. 1 meter and check the channels they are sending on.

I think for me 1 device is the better option.
I will save my slzb 06 as backup device.

Thanks for your help
