Smallest zwave/zigbee Ha Product

I have a gate that open with HA, one of my children don’t have a smartphone, what is the easiest way to give him control to this gate when comes back home so he cam enter without a key. I thought of the smallest zigbee/zwave button, do you know one?
any better Ideas?

looks good! thx! anything cheaper?

ZigBee version of a remote.
Works with ZHA.

I bought a Fibaro key fob and promptly returned it:

  • The buttons are designed to be pretty, not to be used. Each has a different surface area, so are very awkward to press; especially the -.
  • The CR2450 battery enclosure cap is very hard to open and close. The rubber o-ring seal rebate is cut-away in two places for battery contacts, making getting the cap on without damaging the seal difficult.
  • Fibaro refuse to release firmware updates to customers - only via their own HomeCentre.

Personally, I’d go for a cheaper Zigbee remote, or for Z-Wave an Aeotec NanoMote Quad.

Yeah, it was the first link I found. I’ve never used one myself.

do you know a cheaper and still small remote?

Several things that I can think of would be:

  1. A Tile and a ESPHome Bluetooth Tracker

  2. Any 433MHz remote and an OpenMQTTGateway

  3. A camera with facial recognition

  4. A NFC tag reader, with one of the multitude on tags

  5. A key in the fake rock in the garden : )

Those are a couple of ideas off the top of my head.

thx
2. How do you install/program 433mhz remote and openMQTTGateway?
4. it would mean leaving outside with power supply a NFC tag reader?

just found this

  1. This site will help:
    https://docs.openmqttgateway.com/

  2. You could build a tag reader that works on a battery, but you will have to charge it every so often, or get clever an add a solar charger to it.

just found this, do you think it will work with HA?
link

are there any 12V tag readers ?

I would imagine any 433MHz remote would work, cause all you are doing is capturing the code it sending, and when the gateway hears/receives the code it forwards it to HA, and from there you can do whatever you want with automatons.

Probably, zigbee should be universal, but tuya don’t play nicely.

Good info here Database of Zigbee devices compatible with ZHA, Tasmota, Zigbee2MQTT, deCONZ, ZiGate and ioBroker

I’m not sure about 12v tag readers, but you could use a voltage step down regulator like this:

Oh good call out on that @nickrout. So many choices, so many ways, I love it.

Also Zigbee2MQTT

I hope this is helping, even though we are flooding you with idea, but choices are nice.

Oh perfect idea for a kid, @nickrout made me think of this. What about an Aqara Magic Cube, and set it to shake it for entry.
