Smart door controller (open / close automatically) options?

Hi all,

I am wondering if there’s a way to automatically open and close the doors in my house. For energy consumption, I want to close the doors, so I’m only heating the room that I want. But for my smart vacuum cleaner I want the doors to be open, else it won’t be able to reach the rooms.

It is 2023, automatic doors are available in public buildings like hospitals. I can imagine that there are some smart solutions available. I couldn’t find any though.

So just wondering if there are some (affordable) sollutions.

Kind regards,
Matthijs

Did you figure out anything? I have a similar need for the vacuum cleaner, but I also see a use for automatically leaving the bathroom door ajar after showering for some extra ventilation.

No, didn’t find any solution unfortunatly.

This to me looks like the cheapest working solution:

It*s not the cheapest at around 125-165 euros - but it works well. Main problem is really bad instructions when it comes to the wiring up where it’s aimed for commercial use and not our let air in / out kind of usage. Needs a dry contact relay switch (shelly, zigbee, wifi). Allows for manual open (but will then close within XX seconds automatically) - therefore no manual close. Closing therefore via home assistant only (as you need to deactivate the dry contact connection) - of your you could do that with a smart button too. Or a manual button connected to a dry contact relay that has manual switch input mode.

For windows there are much cheaper devices (70€) which work together with curtain switch zigbee/wifi/shelly controls. They don’t allow for manual operation anymore and are rather slow. So get a button too or wire up a classic curtain switch.

I’m actually sure quite a lot hospitals/elderly homes/ businesses will use just that motor for their doors as Deper is the biggest manufactrurer for such motors in China. But yeah it’s mainly sold white label… You can easily pay 3-4 times for it and get the same with just an additional logo on top.
