Smart light switch support?

I’ve noticed there’s support for smart power outlets and light bulbs… But where are all of the light switches? I know you can flash different firmware on smart switches. But why? Can’t we just add support for these without flashing new firmware and modifying them?

Support where?

Home Assistant can support anything that has an API and a library that supports that API. Many WiFi devices operate with a closed cloud service.

You can instead use Zigbee, or Z-Wave, or as you said, flash new firmware.

Okay, so does that mean that either of these two products will 100% work? I’m just trying to find a product that works out of the box with Home Assistant.
