Smart locks and walking past them

Hello everyone,

I’m considering getting a smart lock, specifically the Aqara Smart Lock U200. Ideally, I’d like to set it up so that the smart lock responds to me or another person of my choice from the outside and automatically unlocks the door. On the other hand, I don’t want the door to unlock automatically if we just happen to walk past it (which happens frequently due to the layout of the house). However, the door should still unlock when we actually want to go out. Does anyone here have a clever solution for this through Home Assistant, or is this only possible with an external motion or presence sensor combined with Bluetooth for outside and manual unlocking from the inside?

Also, what’s your usual setup for a smart lock? Maybe I’m overthinking the whole setup.

Thanks in advance for your ideas and thoughts on the subject!

Does this mean that the door is usually locked when you are in the house?

I have only used a Nuki lock - but as I recall automatic locking/unlocking was normally from the outside. You could do both from inside, of course, but to be honest it was much easier to do it manually, by turning the knob.

I had locking when I went out and overnight locking automated, one triggered by setting the alarm and one by the time.

The U200 seems to have quite a range of lock/unlock options - it seems unlikely that any of them would be triggered accidentally just by walking past. Even the NFC tag looks as if it has to more or less touch the lock.
