My housemate just got a plug-in hybrid and we’re looking for a way to track its impact on the total electricity use/cost. It takes a standard US 110v/15a plug in charger. She bought a cheap meter from Amazon that seems to work for tracking usage, but it’s got no connectivity and the interface is horrible. It would be great if we could instead automatically send all the data to home assistant to database it and present the info in a much better way. Anyone have a suggestion for an accurate smart meter for this use case? We have reliable Zigbee and Z-wave networks available. Thanks!
Have you considered shelly plus 1 PM? Its not Z/wave-igbee but it is cheap. It is rated to 16A, has overload protection and temperature protection. It costs $21.50 USD. It also can be run on the smartphone app by mfg so housemate has visibility to it whenever. It integrates easily with HA via WIFI.
We’d be better off with a plug in module rather than a wire in, because this outlet is not dedicated exclusively to car charging. We often use the same outlet for different uses like leaf blowing, etc. during the day, when the car charger isn’t in use. (A freezer is plugged into the second plug on the outlet at all times).
