I am trying to automate my kids reading light. It is a USB powered light. Currently it is just plugged in to an adapter and I have a timer on a smart plug to turn it off X minutes after bed time. This works, but I want to set a timer after it turns on before I turn it off. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night and needs to read to calm back down. I dont want to prevent him from doing this BUT I want to limit his time with the light on. Is there such a thing of a smart plug (WiFi/zwave/zigbee) that can monitor mA of power? The USB light only draws 600 mA.
Most should be able to let you set the unit of measurement and the decimal position for how accurate you need it to be:
This is what it lets me set for my zigbee plugs atm, the model is TS011F using the Australian plug version.
Similar situation but for my son’s nightlight.
I gave him a loratap 4 gang zigbee button. One of the buttons turns on the smart plug the nightlight is plugged into, turning it on. It also starts a timer helper and I have an automation that turns off the smart plug after 1 hour.
Given the low amperage, this approach might be more reliable.
