I’m reaching out to see if anyone has suggestions for a more budget-friendly alternative to the Philips Hue Signe gradient floor lamp that is compatible with Home Assistant. The design and gradient colors of the Signe lamp have really caught my attention, but the price tag of 350 euros seems steep.
I’m wondering if there are any comparable alternatives out there. Additionally, I’m interested in exploring options for gradient light strips that integrate well with HA, with a preference for Zigbee-compatible products, though I’m open to other suggestions as well.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Yes, while I find the Hue products to be top shelf quality and have some of the best dimming and color ranges, the price of their products is hard to stomach at times.
I have yet to find a ‘very good’ alternative, however I continue to research/watch the many Bluetooth and Tuya WiFi based products. It is rather a ‘roll of the dice’ to understand what features and functions are either included or missing from a given product.
All that said, I would watch AliExpress (for new products) and Github as well as this forum to see what folks are working with. The forum, link below, of folks exploring hacking the Beken MCU’s that are in a number of the Tuya devices is also a good read to see what folks are discovering. For the bluetooth based lights, in GitHub, you will find a number of projects where folks are reverse engineering the BLE commands of some lights. Searching for ‘bluetooth light’ and/or the name of the various iOS/Android apps that control these lights is a good start to see if anyone is working to make the device non-cloud based 100% local controllable. Most of the products coming out of AliExpress and other Asia shops are either WiFi or BLE based, there are fewer Zigbee based options. But with the newer Matter/Thread firmware becoming more prevalent, the radio ‘choice’ seems to be becoming more ‘open’.
As I said, it is a rather frustrating ‘wild west’ of LED lighting right now. There are quite a few interesting light form factors coming from the Asia manufactures but figuring them out is difficult. From my experience, if you find something that works reliably, seems of good quality and at a decent price then buy multiple. Because, if it is ‘good’, it is often quickly ‘gone’. Less of an issue for you in EU and RoW, but do check the voltage and frequency of devices. This is a ‘gotcha’ for us in US…
I purchased two Fancylink floor lamps and just set them up and they are working fine. They actually register as Philips Signe lights to zigbee2mqtt which I find amusing.
Next step is getting them to accept gradient commands when put in a group together. Anyone have any ideas about that?
