Smart plug-in switch for a humidifier (US)

I want to turn a humidifier on and off with a smart switch. I tried it with a zwave switch (aeotech smart switch 6), but in the location it’s in zwave connectivity keeps cutting in and out, despite a fairly close repeater. I suspect interference, as zwave has generally been very buggy in my house.

So I’m looking for alternatives. What smart switches are people happy with? It only needs to be simple on/off, not dimmer, but it needs to be OK with inductive loads like the humidifier motor (this is an evaporative one, so it just has a spinning fan, not ultrasound transducer). I know some SSRs don’t like inductive loads, but no clue which ones use what SSR.

I don’t care about sensors, etc. Nice, but not at all necessary.

Sonoff with Tasmota?

Definitely Sonoff’s flashed with Tasmota.

Check out the S20 or S31 (if your are living in the US).

Does sonoff require a gateway, or is it wifi or something? Does it need a cloud connection?

Thanks.

Ok, answered my own questions. Wifi, and looks like the tasmoto firmware removes need for their app, yes?

I have a similar setup here, Sonoff Basic with Tasmota controlling a humidifier. Mine I a simple ultrasonic portable in the bedroom, but the Sonoff Basic can handle 10 Amps. (So they claim, but on my floor heater I prefer to solder the AC wires to the board. I don’t trust the screw terminals for high current loads).

On mine, I currently have a Node-Red flow that turns the humidifier on if Weather Underground shows the humidity below 60%. But, I built that before discovering Home Assistant, so maybe moving the humidifier control to Home Assistant will be a target project to write an automation in Home Assistant to do the same.

Yes… no app needed if you flash them.
