Smart Plug that allows updating Firmware

I was looking at smart plugs on Amazon (US) this morning and came across this plug

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZCDLMYN/ref=sspa_dk_detail_6?psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyVTJTMElWOVU1M01HJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDMyNzA1MUdPQkZOUTZaQ0lFUCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjA0MTM5MlVEMUZXTjZBT1dCNiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbDImYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

I was surprised to read this in the description:

  • FREELY UPDATE FIRMWARE ----The smart plug uses ESP8285 chip. We have opened the OTA interface of the smart plug, anyone who need the OTA data please contact with us via email:[email protected] reference: http://support.doiting.com.

Companies are finally starting to listen!

Would I use Homekit to control this from HA or could I control it directly?

Only $5 each if you get the 2-pack!
That pricing is crazy.

Very neat… although I’d prefer to not have to install a random program on my computer in order to re-flash.

I just discovered this company… here’s a list of products they have in stock at the moment shipping with Tasmota (which means you could re-flash with anything else): https://cloudfree.shop/?s=tasmota&post_type=product

I looked on AliExpress for a UK version, that doesn’t say the firmware is upgradeable but found their PIR and Temp/Humidity sensors do allow it.
