Smart Recessed lighting and grouping

Hi all, just looking for what people might be using for smart recessed lighting.

I’m moving my office from my basement to an upstairs bedroom. I currently have a bunch of pot lights, in 2 groups (one over my desk and one for the rest of the room). These are all hard wired together the old way with 2 switches so I don’t have to have everything on at the same time if I’m just working at my desk.

I’m figuring by now there must be a better way to put in a bunch of smart lights and be able to just group them and control them as needed, not worrying about if I reconfigure the room later.

I’m just not up on what’s good these days, and I figured this group would be a better place than simply asking the guy at home depot, who probably doesn’t even know what home assistant is,

For wifi version if they’re running tasmota/esphome, you can enable device group

Slightly better method is using tasmesh (doesn’t rely on wifi)

Keep your existing setup and add a Shelly plus between switch and lights.
