I made a smart rotary controller using a potentiometer. The potentiometer updates its position with ESPHome, so you can use it to control HA devices. Like dimming the lights or changing the volume of your speakers.

Nice. You can do similarly with a rotary encoder. A rotary encoder also usually has a push button function which you can use, eg, to switch to controlling another light, or a speaker.
