New to SMART Sniffer? It sniffs your drives for S.M.A.R.T. attribute data and exposes real HA entities via a custom integration. One-line install on Linux, Mac, Windows, or HAOS App from HACS. Auto-discovers over mDNS. Backblaze-based failure prediction, not pass/fail. Predict drive failure with Home Assistant.
It’s been a smooth spread since v5.3. ![]()
We added:
btrfs filesystem reporting (v5.6)
Disk usage was a community request, never the core SMART mission. But the agent has been doing statvfs on ext4 and xfs since v5.0, and btrfs was the obvious gap. v5.6 closes it. Accurate usage reporting for btrfs filesystems on Synology, ZimaOS, CasaOS, and TrueNAS SCALE where btrfs is the default. Bind mounts, escaped paths, display naming: all handled. Your butter is now visible.
NAS platform support (v5.5)
NAS boxes are where drive health matters most, and until v5.5 the agent couldn’t cut through. QNAP drives showed as “unavailable.” Synology drives didn’t appear. RAID controllers were invisible.
v5.5 churned out: ![]()
- Automatic SCSI-to-ATA protocol detection (QNAP, zero config)
- smartctl path auto-resolution (Synology, Unraid)
device_overridesconfig for hardware RAID (MegaRAID, HP SmartArray, LSI)--discoverflag: probes every drive, prints what works. Paste the output into a GitHub issue and we can help without going back and forth.
Stability blitz (v5.5.2 through v5.5.5)
Four patches in three days, all driven by community reports. SAT fallback broadened for QNAP’s HBA. Sleeping drives no longer vanish on startup. mDNS interface filter expanded from 10 to 51 prefixes. macOS quarantine stripped automatically. Every issue confirmed fixed by reporters. Zero open issues. Buttery smooth. ![]()
