Smart stove range (this might be a long shot)

Here are some pictures of my range hood. I don’t suspect anyone has automated something similar with ESP? I don’t know exactly where to start.

It has 3 speed settings, and a light button. All are momentary buttons and stay lit up when toggled.

Would deeply appreciate any help from someone who may have done something similar!

Matt

I smartified my range hood a number of years ago. While it’s similarish, it’s definitely not exactly the same as yours. I’ve since switched to an ESP32 running ESPHome (did the original project long before I even knew of HA). I use a temp sensor and a cheap smoke alarm (just for the smoke sensor) to ramp the fan up automatically.

I made a writeup that might give you some inspiration or pointers:

There are a few projects on here to do exactly that, although the hardware will be different.

I suspect that the buttons are switching mains voltage to the light and fan, so be careful when you look inside, which is what you’ll have to do.

I would see if you can dig up a wiring diagram online. Probably in an installation manual?

I actually found one inside mine when I had a poke around once.

Although dunno if you’d find lower level details of the circuit. Worth a hunt.

@brooksben11 @nickrout @Mahko_Mahko thank you to all 3 of you for your replies.

I started poking around up there this weekend and found some stickers that are helpful, but the biggest issue I see is that I don’t see a way to get in there deep enough - I can remove the vent grills, but I think the contractors who installed it didn’t provide a good way to remove it or get in there. Maybe I can snap off the trip piece underneath that surrounds the whole thing exposing screws. I’ll keep poking around. I’ll look into the link you shared. Thanks so much.

Your gonna mess around, break it and piss the old lady off and be sleeping in your car! You like living dangerous or something?

Yeah these things are increasingly sealed and difficult not to break.
