I am currently looking into wired smart switches for my home because quest at my home keep pressing the switches while I have motion sensors and smart-lights.
After a lot of research I am not able to find the answers and hope to find them here. I am looking for a smart-switch which has the following functions:
Send a command to HA but not cut power to the lights its connected to.
Send different commands based on a hold-down or double-tab
Control the switch from my app to cut power to the lights
Does cut power to the lights when it loses internet connection so I am still able to control my lights.
Is there any switch out there like the Aqara H1 that has these function?
I would leave the old switches in place and you can put behind them in the ame electical boxes, shelly relays that natively connect to Home Assistant. You can compoletely control the switch from being completely detached from the light altogether, to only controlling it under certain circumstances, etc. The switch is actyually connected ot the shelly and the shelly is connected to the power and the light. You can even configure it to work without HA altogether, in case HA goes down, or you can have it cloud based or not cloud based at all and just local or both. Shelly relays are increible. Every shelly device even has it own internal website so you can control it through the shelly app, the web site at the ip address of the device (only accessible when you are on the same intenal wifi network) or through Home Assistant. Shelly relays are a no-brainer.
I have just looked into these relays and they indeed have all options I asked for.
The only thing is that I seem to understand its either 1 of 2 options,
1- I set the relay as a physical power switch for the connected lights which I can also control wireless (with HA).
2- Put the relay in detached mode and make the switch activate a command via HA.
The only thing I was hoping for is being able to do both things at the same time.
So as an example: make it run option 2 with sending a command (turn on-lights to smart-bulbs) without the relay actually cutting of the power. And when it is no longer connected to any network automatically switch to option 1 and turn-on/cut-off power by physically pressing the button(just like a normal switch).
I am trying to explain everything as clear as possible as I understand it might be hard to understand.
Sure you can call url’s as well. You could make the switch always ‘detached’ and just decide in HA when the switch was thrown - what to do - turn the light on or off, or not, or send an email, do other things…
If you’re looking for a zigbee switch like aqara h1, that feature doesn’t exist but can be easily enabled on wifi switch running esphome as mentioned by @indeeed
I have looked into the shelly’s and am convinced they are amazing and do everything I want. 1 problem, I have no Neutral wire and the Shelly 1L is no longer being produced…
Thanks for the answer tho!
Now looking if I can find other relay’s or wallswitches ESPHome.
