Anyone figure out how to flip open/close in HA since it is wrong?
Hello,
I use my ring alarm as my zwave controller (via the Ring HA addon).
Has anybody successfully added zwave smartshades to Homeassistant via this Ring integration?
I also have the SkyConnect dongle but it seems Zwave is easier to setup for the shades.
This is probably an obvious question
Thanks a lot
Only small limitation in case you think you may ever want to do top down bottom up shades (I have them and love that feature!), then you can only do either a radio motor (with smart link pro) or matter controller. Zwave and Zigbee are not supported for top down bottom up shades.
If you have a recent blind then the fix is easy, press the up and down buttons together FIRST (wait for the blind to do its little jog motion), then press the “p” button behind the cover. It will do another little jog.
That will invert it for Zigbee but the remote will still work correctly.
Unfortunately, they only added that feature in later models, in earlier models it will not work.
For those models, you push the “p” button first, wait for the jog, then the Up and Down buttons together. This will invert it for Zigbee but also the remote will now also be inverted. Since I rarely use the remote I can live with that for my older blinds.
Curious if you (or anyone else) has tried this - integrating the Z-Wave version of shades with Ring.
I skimmed the thread but never saw the answer, was there a consensus on the best protocol? I’m new to HA and Smartwings shades will be (one of) the first thing I add. I’ve had a couple of zwave devices in the past but nothing current.
Did you ever try your shades with your bond? I thought about order just the RF version and saving a ton of money and just using bond to control them all.
Bond should work, but you won’t get position feedback, and it would be difficult to open or close to a specific position. If you don’t care about having a cover entity and just want a few automations which open and close, then bond should work fine.
Also, I’m quite happy with the z-wave version now. I had a bad repeater which was causing random delays.
I have zwave and it’s been flawless.
The remote on the other hand, sometimes takes an extra press of the button to get both shades working. When I control the blinds via zwave, I never have a problem.
For the zwave versions, is the return status (%) correct?
I can set a certain number (eg 73%) with the slider.
Curtain is moving, and return state is correct.
My up/down is working. But, I don’t get a return status.
I just pushed up, and it’s now completely open. But the status remains:
Status seems to be coming from the node itself?
My status/position works.
Hi folks! I’m looking at getting some of these and your experiences are helpful. I see “Zwave” here, but are you using it with HA’s Zwave or Zwave JS? I’d be using the latter.
I also have HA’s Matter server up and running, so I’d be super interested in folks using that (is that Matter or Thread) - I still get confused on the two.
Since OZW was retired, HA ZWave is ZWave JS… You also have the option of running ZWave JS as an external addon or JSUI. Depending on the need. But at the end of the day they all use the same JS under the hood.
…So works in one - should work in all.
I’m using it with Zwave JS, no issues.
With Z-Wave, in order to get the S2 security, you need to scan the QR code. This is complicated by some odd requirement that the QR Code scan must be done over https. This works fine with NabuCasa using the HomeAssistant app as long as you disconnect from your local wifi.
I just bought a blind (test before buying the others) with Matter over Thread motor. Blind is working perfectly from the remote control.
My home automation setup is Home Assistant with ZBT-1 dongle. I successfully paired the blind with HA and it worked at first. After a week of usage, I found the connection to get lost (marked as unavailable in HA) and back in or to have delays of 5-10 seconds randomly when using it from HA (when it works). It is my only Thread device on the network. HA an track when it loses the connection and it is at random time like at night when not using it.
This is what I sent to the support email of Smartwing. I’ll keep you posted.
Seeking more users experience with the matter/threads version of the Smartwings blinds. I am about 4 months away from purchasing blinds for my new home. I am leaning toward the matter version but want to hear everyone’s experiences.
Just checking in a year later. Is anyone using the Zigbee version (under ZHA) successfully. That’s the protocol I really would prefer, but of course they have to work reliably.
Brad,
I use the Zigbee version using ZHA and just purchased my blinds a month ago. You do need to follow the instructions that come with the shades for HA. The last part of the instructions tell you how to reverse the controls so that the shades operate correctly with HA. It basically just says on the remote press the up and down buttons together to make the blind jog once. Then press the “p” button behind the battery cover until the blind jogs again. That’s it! Everything will work fine then…
Awesome! Thank you.
I did also reach out to Smartwings support, who responded promptly. They said that their engineers had resolved the inverted problem. I am glad you have provided your recent experience, though, so now I know this manual intervention is still required.
