So the reliable backup I thought I had, turns out not to be reliable. I’ve flashed my Pi3 with a new install of Home Assistant and have accessed it successfully via the GUI. I have a keyboard connected and I’m at the CLI.
I’m trying various ways to restore a snapshot from September of my system. So far restoring the full snapshot from the GUI hasn’t worked, and restoring from the CLI hasn’t either*. I’m wondering if there’s some problem preventing HA from restoring the Core to a specific version so now I’m trying a partial restore of the config but not the Core. Fingers crossed(!).
If that should fail, and I have to try to restore everything manually, does anyone have any tips on whether this can be done and how it could be done?
In particular I’m super keen to avoid having to reprogram my konnected board settings and my alarmo settings - does anyone know where they are stored?
I have non tarball backups of my HA instance so maybe I can go about this step by step without attempting snapshot restore which seems to be a very fragile process these days.
Any help gratefully received!!

sorry to tag you guys directly I know how impolite it is but I’m really panicking now because I’ve got other threads open and so far no help debugging this - which is totally OK - I know I’m not entitled to any support - but I just thought if I mention your names you might notice this thread and otherwise might not.
many thanks
the error was “context deadline exceeded” then “process 116 systemd-journal of user 0 dumped core”
I can’t say that i know a lot about these snapshots, but I looked at mine.
I can open them in winrar and export out the config files ect. maybe try that?
Thanks. I’m mainly fretting about my Konnected/Alarmo configs because they were fiddly to setup and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to restore them happily. There’s myriad other things that I know are going to bite me down the line, for example SSH keys for the SSH daemon etc…
All of which would work swimmingly if the snapshot would just behave.
It seems to be getting stuck at “restoring homeassistant folder”
I had some bad backup to ie corrupted backups im putting down to a bad database file.
mainly wanted my lovelace screen back and the ESP HOME stuff as they were the hards to rebuild
had some good OLD OLD ones
so what i did a fresh install install the Samba Share add-on then what hell
