[SOLVED] Rcu: INFO: rcu_preempt detected stalls on CPUs/tasks:

Good day folks, happy Friday!

Environment: Windows 11 mini PC, VMware Workstation 17.5.2, Home Assistant OS 13.2, HA Core 2024.11.1

Every few days, Home Assistant stops working until I reboot the VM. After the reboot, everything works great, but the vmware console starts showing these messages. I’m not sure if the messages are related, but a lot pile up before HA stops working altogether. I’ve tried playing with the VM options, currently set to the ones below, but that hasn’t seemed to help.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

I almost don’t believe it… But will confirm after a few days of stability.

These errors and eventual crashes are caused by the VMware workstation snapshots.

Just a few minutes after I do a snapshot, the first rcu_preempt error happens. I created a new VM from scratch, didn’t configure anything special, didn’t load any integrations, just left it completely vanilla - did a snapshot - and now it’s got the same errors.

Rebooting the VM stops the errors, but given that I had nightly snapshots on, the errors/crashes were always coming back! With the scheduled snapshots disabled, I haven’t seen this error once.

CRAZY

Well it’s been long enough now that I can say with confidence that the vmware snapshots were causing the issue. 2 days of stability, no rcu_preempt.
