It has been said before in this thread that simply following the HA Shelly setup instructions is the quickest and easiest way to set them up.

I have over 50 of these. if anyone needs help just pm me.

What’s that card? could you share the config?

I have been trying to get a Shelly Motion hooked up with HA and am failing. I have tried the following:

  • setting it up as a shelly device. The ip address is working fine but the user/password I enter never (!) works. Even when I remove the user login on the Motion itself I can NOT connect to it
  • for MQTT I have setup up the connection from the Motion to connect to HA. In HA I doesn’t see anything happening. When checking things with MQTT Explorer I do see things coming into HA

When checking in HA itself I do not see this one under MQTT

I googled for this homeassistant shellymotion at DuckDuckGo and can’t get it to work. Do I need to do a factory reset of the Motion and try again? How do I wipe any traces from HA to try again. I have 10 other Shelly’s connection (Plug S) and they are all working fine. Not sure why the Motion is such a splitting headache.
Should anyone have some tips in the right direction please let me know

Regards,

Ron

Can you browse to the device?
(If not, ping it until you get a response then try browsing to it again)

I believe that the most common setup problem (omission) is not enabling COIOT

Factory reset can be done via the browser
Settings > Factory Reset

You shouldn’t need to use MQTT

I have the same issue with a Shelly motion 2 purchased couple of days ago.
I can ping it and responds, I can browse settings and the device shows movement, luminosity etc, COIOT is enabled, MQTT disabled, but still sensor is unavailable in HA and Shelly cloud.
I’ve spent hours of resetting it, re register in the network, assign static IP from both router, Shelly app or webpage, it just works for couple of hours and then goes offline.
Firmware version 20220811-152232/v2.1.8@5afc928c
I have exactly the same issues with a Shelly Plus H&T! The rest of the Shelly devices I own, work just fine.
Any ideas of what else I could do to make it work?

I just got 2 shelly motion 2’s going today. After upgrading the firmware to the same as yours.
Time will tell I guess.
If they are anything like the Shelly Button, I’m expecting they probably will go offline until they see something. But that should not mean they are not working.

When you say “going offline” do you mean that you cannot browse to them?
My Shelly Motion sensors after a while cannot be browsed to but are still connected to HASS.
To browse to them I just ping them a few times first. (Even the first few pings fail)

Thats exactly what I see too. 24 hours and I still feel like a deer in the headights every time I walk into the garage! (Shelly Motion 2 turns on lights with a Shelly 1 PM) image

Stop posting pictures of text. Cut & paste - invented 1974, popularised 1983.

My two Shelly motions respond to the first ping, but they have been triggered in the last 15 minutes.

what a hell are you all doing? you dont need MQTT for these to work…
If you need help setting these up let me know. PM me. I will reply and present the setup publicaly.

Im having problems with new Motion 2 by Shelly. I connected 1 to my home network

I can see it if i search for it with the IP adress of the device.
colot is also activated. with the IP Adress of my Home Assistant (Found in the TP DECO APP)

But i cant find it in HA

its just not discoverble…

I have no clue what to do…

Can someone help me?

on HA ,

-Go to Settings,
-Then devices and Services

  • add integration
  • write shelly
  • on host put the IP address of that device.

Done.

They don’t, shelly button is one of a kind in that sense it seems. Motion sensors seem to be “always online” and I’ve never had any issues with them (had 2 running for over a year now). Working like a charm for me.

If you ping a Shelly motion 2 they take a loooong time to respond. So they must wake up from a low power setting.

I put my 2 motion sensors in a group which made them work even better in my application. But recently they started to play up which I thought must have been a HA upgrade but after a lot of investigation, HA was doing what it should. Updated the firmware on the Motion 2’s and they have not missed a beat since!

I’ve had my Shelly Motion 2 for less than a week. (Feb 2023) With the latest firmware. The sensor is less than 12’ away from my Unifi 6 Long Range and the signal strength is only 60%, on top of that I’ve already had to reset it once as it ‘bricked’.

I was shocked to find it doesn’t have a humidity sensor, and having had to reset it once already, I must admit to being rather disappointed.

Did it claim to have a humidity sensor?

Thanks for the sarcasm / passive aggressive response. No it didn’t claim to have a humidity sensor, but considering I can buy a DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor from China for about 50 cents I’m (as I said) surprised it didn’t come with one.

On another note about your reply, how come you didn’t mention anything about the code crashing and the device needing resetting and re-configuring after less that two days? The firmware is completely up-to-date and having read replies from 2021, it seems this problem still hasn’t been fixed.
