Some questions about the Android Companion app vs. the web site

Does anyone know why the android companion seems to have these (nice) integrations with Music Assistant, but the web site does not?

Also, when it comes to playing back my doorbell camera videos that I store in a media folder, I am unable to play them via the app, but I can via the website (either mobile or desktop).

Thanks!

I am not part of the team and speak with no authority, but my guess would be the usual reason in F/LOSS, ā€œbecause no one implemented it yet.ā€ :man_shrugging:

That’s a good point. I had thought they would have been based off the same media sources, but perhaps not.

It’s not like this is critical. I’m just curious.

When you say ā€œthe web siteā€, do you mean the Home Assistant web interface or the Music Assistant web interface? They are 2 different things and for me the Music Assistant web interface definitely has the choices you circled. They appear under the ā€œLibraryā€ icon on my phone. You can also edit settings and remove choices you don’t want to see.

Sorry, good point. I am talking about the ā€œMediaā€ section of the Home Assistant website and Home Assistant Anrdoid Companion app.

Although I have’t seen any settings regarding this section, except setting up local media folders.

Ah, OK. As stated previously, likely an enhancement added to the Companion App that hasn’t made it to the Home Assistant Front end.

No these things don’t get added to the app that way. The app is just a webview to the dashboard.

I’m especially confused by this statement when I see something in the app that is not in the dashboard. I guess that the ā€˜Media’ (or ā€˜Music Assistant’) section is modified based on whether we’re in the companion app or a browser? I can’t fathom why this would be the case, but I guess it must be.

They have a lot of overrides in the frontend to do things like that. Take for example the html5 notification toggle. It’s is not visible if you are using the app because the feature won’t work on the app.

For the record my media tab is missing a lot of what you have so probably coming from music assistant directly as I do not use that.

Yes, 100%. It is definitely coming from music assistant because I don’t have this content available to HA from any other integration. I just don’t know why it would be showing up only in the companion app. I tend to use HA just as much from my desktop at work as I do on mobile.

I guess I’ll take this up with Music Assistant.
