Just a quick update on our situation. We were told by Bali support that our blind motors are too old and they wouldn’t be providing is with a newer firmware update as per their policy. I guess that’ll inform our purchasing decision going forward.
Thank you to everyone that’s helped answer my questions.
All Springs Window Fashion clients, including Bali deserve the peace of mind that thier investment in a better quality window treatment designed to last the entire lifetime of the home is supported by at the very least historical firmware updates and the ability to fix the device as technology quickly advances.
Even GE Jasco recognized this need and released all of thier firmware publicly.
Without this assurance its VERY difficult to justify the additional expense of custom blinds with Somfy/Springs/Bali ZWave motors. Because the expensive windows treatment becomes… Obsolete?
Isn’t Springs and in kind, Bali supposed orders of magnitude in quality than - with respect to Jasco for finally doing the right thing - GE Jasco who already provides this service to thier clients?
At the VERY least, Springs should be able to offer the last supported version of firmware for a specific model in a user-risk-accepted fashion.
;). wrote a lot of these over the years - find the right bellybutton and get some version of that in front of them m.
Hi Ron. Is there any chance you could reach out to me via PM regarding this issue? I stumbled upon your post after hours of researching and reading on various forums as I have the same problem you had. I am new to this forum as a result of your post so I am unable to contact you myself. Any help would be greatly appreciared!
Bali ended up swapping mine out, they were newer and was having issues updating them from the app, as they are the ones with bluetooth/zwave. Battery life is still crap, 2+ weeks, but that has been escalated to their hardware engineer whom ive had a conversation with indirectly through support. The stall issue is still intermittent and I have to unplug one or two a week to work again. It’s a shame they don’t offer a solar option for these, i’ve been working on a solution(thanks aliexpress) and hope to have something that will trickle charge them. Graber had a good solar panel at one point in time, but the connections are different on the ends. Regretting not running power to the blinds when the walls were open.
I’m interested. Is there a place we should contact you?
I’m also interested if anyone has the newer firmware files out there and has tried to update 11.3 to one of the newer firmwares (14.4 or 14.7 or beyond).
I’ve also had this problem with these Spring Window Fashions RSZ1 motors stalling (have 3 of them) for several years now. The original installer who put these in for us is no longer allowed to service our zip code (their franchise area has changed), but I have reached out to see if he would take pity on me and help out. The company who has taken over our zip code is totally incompetent and I’d be shocked if they have any idea how to obtain the firmware, let alone install it for us.
In the meantime, if anyone out there would be kind enough to share the 11.3 firmware and instructions for how to install it with me, I’d be so grateful!
Do you know for sure that this is safe or flashable with zwavejs? I don’t see any kind of doc on the github repo so just curious.
Also wishing I could find firmware v13.3 - long story short I had an unfortunate power surge and all my previously working perfectly v13.3 firmware blinds are now replaced with v14.7 firmware and I’m having issues. I can’t 110% say it’s the firmware, but nothing else really has changed with my network so struggling a bit for sure.
I don’t know if it is flashable via zwavejs as I did it the hard way many years ago. But the hash of that file does match the hash of the file provided to me by zebrablinds.
Ah gotcha that makes sense. I’ve still been having troubles with the consistency on my new firmware 14.7 motors that I had to order from Springs due to a power surge that fried my older 13.3 motors that functioned flawlessly for around 2 years.
I might be getting closer on staggering an automation with some small delays thrown in to make the behavior more consistent, but it’s still a pain that despite no apparent change in my setup the new ones are for some reason nowhere near as reliable/consistent as the old ones were.
I’ve pretty much given up on getting the 11.3 firmware for my roller shades. I’ll just have to live with using my automations to back the shades up and try again if they stall.
My automations first attempt to close the shades, delay for a bit longer than the full travel time, then repeat a series of steps until the shade is fully closed (open the blind, delay, close the blind, delay). This does eventually work to close the shade each time, although it is annoying to have to listen to them stall, back up, then close (sometimes more than once) over the course of a few minutes when it happens. I run similar automations in the morning to open the shades (automating the repeated closing/opening steps to eventually open them all the way if stalled).
Happy to help give more details about the automation I’m using accomplish this if it would help anyone else, although I am new to HA so my solution might not be as elegant as it could be. I’m sorry that others are struggling with this, too. It’s crazy that Springs doesn’t make it easier for customers to obtain firmware that fixes this issue, especially since the firmware already exists…
