This is the email that Somfy sent me, this is an example of why you should NOT buy Somfy, they make an API to not be able to use it.
The only thing I’ve done is restart HA a couple of times and I haven’t touched anything else!
I got the same email. I cannot understand how they are able to not have a local API to the TaHoma box (even for their own app) and then complain about backend resource use…
It’s unfortunate, they think it has a top-notch app and I think it’s one of the biggest garbage out there today !!
If I could I would try to hack it and disconnect it from your cloud …
You can leave the cloud.
We have IO shutters serie not RTS…
@tetienne, @vlebourl and me (the developers of the TaHoma and Somfy integration for HA) are currently investigating this message from Somfy. It looks like it is not fully related to our component, since we don’t use the /setup
endpoint they mention in the email that often.
@tetienne reached out to Somfy, but I believe our integrations are honoring their usage limits and should be fine for October 31.
GitHub issues which are updated with the latest news:
Hi,
Thank you very much for your work and for clarifying the situation, I did not know that there were more cases like mine.
Antoni.
Glad I’m not the only one that received that email. I hope that they won’t disconnect me. I don’t want to use an extra app for my shutters, since my family, all use HA.
The thing that surprises me is that the “accuse” of using too much data (I open and close my shutters once a day…) that they do not provide me the inside of the usage. The dashboard / statistics on the development API portal shows nothing. Whatever period or topic I select, it’s the same message “No performance data is available for the criteria you supplied.”
Hope to hear more about this soon. I love this integration!
Hi All
I have been using the somfy integration with a Conexoon for a few months now and it had been working great. Thanks for your work on this!
This morning my entities in home assistant became unreachable so I tried to reinstall the integration.
Unfortunately I have not been able to resolve the issue and I’m wondering if anybody else experienced this, and whether it is related to the announcement above?
Not sure if there was a firmware update or something that could have triggered this…
I can still control the blinds through the somfy app.
Regards
Johnny
FYI - seeing the below in the HA log:
2020-11-06 14:25:12 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.somfy] Cannot update devices: 404
Upgrade to home assistant seems to have sorted it. Strange…
Hi,
Finally I have opted to use the Tahoma (custom components), thus I finished the connection problems.
Thanks,
Now I don’t remember, I think that when you bought the Tahoma unit, through the Somfy website …
You should be able to login in the tahoma
custom component with your Somfy account. It won’t work on tahomalink.com, but it works in the custom component if you have a Connexoon.
What is the current status on Somfy? - Conexoon / Tahoma.
I am about to purchase Electric curtain rails, so not sure if I can go ahead with the Conexoon RTS, or if I need the more expensive TaHoma system.
To be honest, the current status didn’t change much. Somfy offers an official open API, however this API is very limited in terms of device support and has been very unstable in the past. We are currently using their internal API’s, however this is something that could theoretically be blocked any day.
The Connexoon or TaHoma box wouldn’t make a difference for the Home Assistant support. Please now that with RTS, you won’t know the actual state, thus you need to keep track yourself if a cover is open or closed. Setting it to a specific position won’t be possible.
My personal opinion would be to look for a vendor that offers a local API and which is more open. Somfy has really nice products in terms of hardware, however their strategy around ‘Open with Somfy’ is not a strategy that a company should have in 2021.
I agree with you. As long as they keep their private API open enough for us to use, TaHoma is great with HA, but that could change without anything we could do… Regarding the protocol, I would stay away from RTS as much as possible, and choose ioHomeControl (sometimes just IO) if possible. Another reason for that is that IO can be controlled with the Velux KLF200 box (example from a Swiss shop), with local API. And don’t be alarmed by the " 5 individual drives or 5 drive groups " in the description, that’s for wired devices. I don’t think IO devices (wireless) are limited, or at least, certainly not to 5!
The (only) benefit of RTS would be that it is a more open protocol, thus that users also added it to Home Assistant in different ways. (without a hub).
However, I personally like IO products way more as well, even though it is a closed protocol…
Thanks for the follow up. I’m struggling to find the right products though, on the Somfy website it’s only listing the RTS kit. I have no reason to use Somfy kit, actually, the #1 priority is to integrate into HA…
