I am a relative newby on HA and I have a number of Comfy RTS roller blinds which I want to program via my RFXCOM RFXtrx
I can get them up and down but I can’t get them to stop in the pre-programmed position (middle button on the remote).
Anyone who can help me out ?
ESPSomfy RTS is much nicer than plain control, it is cheap and easy to build. For one you get position reporting, even if you use the official remotes too, besides working My position:
The RFX supports up to 40 covers per device.
Has an exellent range.
And does not only support Somfy RTS but also a lot of other devices like Chacon, KlikAanKlikUit, Visonic, many weather sensors …
There is a possibility to use the pre-lprogrammed position,
The STOP button is used for this.
I’m not saying to ditch what you have in terms of RFX. It is nice kit if you have devices requiring it. I’m just saying a 10-15€ device can do Somfy RTS way better, with the same range. Not that you need it, but you can buy a lot of them for the price of RFXCOM gear.
If you are not interested in feedback about positions and know what external Somfy remotes are doing then RFX will do quite nice. Personally I found knowing positions is very valuable when automating and monitoring.
I do feel RF is on the way out for many IOT devices. I ditched all KlikAanKlikUit RF kit for lack of two way communication and sub par reliability because of it. Remotes are moving towards bluetooth. of Somfy is abandoning RTS over IO. Sensors are using Zigbee, matter, etc. So if you have hardware using RF it it nice, but I would not consider buying IOT devices that rely on it for integrations.
Plus I always found the price of RFXCOM way to high for what it could offer me. RF was popular because hardware for it is cheap, as ESPSomfyRTS proves.
Well it feel my home automation is a bit of a mess. I started of with a lot of KaKu switches (20 plus) for lights etc. Then added the ICS-2000 with Olisto to get to bether control.
Olisto basically worked fine also combined with the heating thermostate and geofencing. So also took Somfy RTS blinds since they work with ICS-2000. Maybe I should have taken the I.O blinds in the first place but things happen…
But this all worked perfectly with ICS-2000.
Until recently Olisto stopped their support and I am constantly having unsolvable issues with geofencing.
So I am slowly transferring to a NUC with HA and the RTXrfx which sounded as the perfect solution.
Until of course I recently got a number of new Somfy solar sun blinds and they are only available in I.O. And they apparently don’t run on anything but the Tahoma switch. So I am slowly getting more equipment but less control. Their must be a solution
I got it running. It all had to do with the correct use of the MY command for the RTS blinds. MY command while running obvious is “stop”. MY command while stationary is “go to the programmed MY position”.
