Sonof Switchman M5 Slow / intermittent Response [RESOLVED]

I’ve purchased 3 of these:

But in HA they respond very slow intermittently and sometimes not at all. My other Sonoff devices work instantly (Sonoff Light Switch White 3CH WiFi RF | Sonoff Africa)

One clue is the response is similarly slow when using the eWelink Smart Home integration page. I also get the error “This entity (‘switch.10020f1445_1’) does not have a unique ID, therefore its settings cannot be managed from the UI.” when trying to manage the individual switches (and cant find it in configuration.yaml) so maybe ewelink’s integration does not support this properly.

The switches work perfectly using the ewelink app though.

This is a last resort before I try to flash it with ESPHome. Thanks for any pointers.

All three respond slowly ? Are they in different places in the house ?

I have a particular moes rgb bulb that has the same problem, and if I re-pair it, the issue seems to go away, but will eventually return. I think its due to its location in my home, as identical devices elsewhere are fine.

Thanks for the reply - I had 2 installed and they’re both slow / unavailable at times. There’s good wifi coverage.

I’ve actually just went ahead now and flashed them with ESPHome and Oh. My. Gosh. What a difference. They respond instantaneously and so easy to work with now!

I’m doing them all, maybe all my devices. Love being off the cloud.
