Sonoff basic R3 DIY Zigbee - how to add it?

hello all,

I am so excited on learning the home Automation OS that I have been shopped impulsively and purchased Sonoff R3 DIY Zigbee…

I have installed Zigbee2Mqtt and it made my life so easier!!!

I have successfully discovered and added one IKEA light bulbs, but now with the Sonoff R3 I am struggling…

HA finds the device (it discovers a “zigbee router” which I think it is :slight_smile:)

and then it adds “only one entity” (the link quality)…

my questions to this forum are:

  • is correct that HA sees the device manufacturer as “Digi”? (please note that I did not flash the device… just wired and plugged as it came)

  • why I cannot find the “switch on/off” under the entities?

If brand new, when powered on it will attempt to pair to Zigbee2mqtt automatically. If not (or if has been paired before and needs to be re-paired) - press and hold the (relay) button on the top for about 5 seconds until the relay clicks and the red LED flashes several times. The device will then go into pairing mode and the blue LED will begin to flash. When connected, the blue LED will turn on solid. It should then be connected to Zigbee2mqtt. Pressing the button should activate the relay on/off as normal, and the red LED will be on/off.

8 managed to fix it by restarting zigbee2mqtt add-on…

This is the second time (and just adding two zigbee devices) that I need to restart…

Not a big deal, but I wonder if it is me (unlucky) or if it is standard practice…

We do not need to flash the sonoff R3 to be able to turn it off/on via HA? I am looking to convert my soundbar speaker smart.

He is talking about the Zigbee version. That one just needs to be paired with a Zigbee coordinator.

O. I didn’t realize there is a zigbee version. Is this version any different than the other as far as features?

It does not contain an esp, so impossible to flash, but that is not needed for zigbee. For the rest, just as the Wifi variant it is an on/off switch you can control from HA. It does work as a ZigBee router to create a stronger Zigbee mesh.
