Sonoff S31 Issues

I have a bunch of Sonoff S31s and use their power measurement capabilities for some reporting and automations.
The plugs worked 100% reliably so far, but in the last few days I’ve had some of these automations fail because the plug doesn’t properly report the power consumption. It either doesn’t report any wattage even though the plug has just been switched on or the value stays the same even though the power consumption varies.
Once I open up the eWeLink app on my mobile and look at the individual plug, it starts reporting in the app as well as in my HomeAssistant dashboard.
Does anybody experience similar issues with this kind of Sonoff plug or other Sonoff devices?

And: yes, the ‘LAN control’ option is switched on for all my Sonoff devices.

I would suspect a communication over the internet is the issue. I’ve been seeing loss communications with their servers happening a lot lately. I suspect that they are testing some alpha fixes due to strange actions caused by alexa, siri, etc and other problems of things not working. That is all I kind give you a clue to. Check the logs found under Settings > System > Logs > Show All

We will have to wait and see if they can get things working correctly.

Thanks for this - I was, probably very naively, thinking that LAN Control bypassed the cloud nonsense.
I flashed the first two S31s I bought with Tasmota way back when and, although I don’t like the whole approach much, I’ll have to give it another thought for the remaining ones :astonished:

having the same issue here… Why do we need the damn cloud if it’s supposed to be available locally… $)%(!/)%!

It keeps displaying the same wattage even if the plug is turned off for x hours…

@chairstacker are those with tasmota more reliable displaying current wattage usage?

The S31s got back to normal after 2 days and have been reliable since.
The Tasmota ones have been rock solid from day 1, but it just yet another integration to maintain and they are reporting through MQTT, of course.

Are they still working for you? I think its gone back to not reporting reliably … looking to get some gear to flash them and been done with this nonsense.

I flashed almost all my S31s with ESPHome by now because I recently had another issue with reporting power values.
The only S31 that’s not been flashed is one where power reporting is not as important, but I need to be able to control it remotely, i.e. through the eWeLink app, when my Home Assistent instance is down - and once the plug has been flashed with ESPHome that functionality goes away.
