After extensive research on the forums and the web I was unable to find any definitive answer to the question “Is the power monitor hardware in the Sonoff S31 bidirectional?” So I decide it was time to experiment and see what happened. I already had some S31 plugs (not S31 lite version) ready with Tasmota 10.1.0 setup and calibrated, so I plugged one in to the output of the grid tie inverter (120v) and into the wall, hit the power and hoped for the best. To my surprise everything was functional and the sensor values were correct after some testing and verifying. The plug also adds the benefit of switching the the system on and off remotely if needed. I wanted to post my findings to help out others with this info in the future. I am running a small setup currently with 750w total of solar panels and a 1000w grid tie inverter.
