Sonoff Universal Zigbee 3.0 USB Plus E dongle 502 gateway error

Complete noob so be gentle!

HA set up ok and no issues til I tried to add Zigbee. Bought a Sonoff dongle plus e (driver installed) and have not been able to install.
Using MQTT I get a 502 gateway error and despite researching it for a couple of days still cannot get it to pick up the dongle and at a bit of a loss at the moment.

Would appreciate any help in as simple terms as possible as still on a very steep learning curve!

502 means the add-on isn’t running, and it looks like the problem is you gave it an invalid path to the stick.

Check the hardware menu to see what the path should be.

And there possibly lies the problem as I cannot see it in the hardware list.
I can see it in terminal in Mac osx but not in HA hardware?
Appreciate any suggestions as to why this would be.

A problem with the VM configuration - you haven’t passed the stick through.
