Sonoff vs Aqara motion sensors, my experience, what is yours

Hi. Ive been trying both and they both work well but the SONOFF seem to have twice the range. I have a SONOFF one at the top of the stares and it picks up people at the bottom of the stares. I have a Aqara one in the hall and you have to go half way down the hall for it to trigger. It seems the SONOFF ones have twice the range.

Its nice the Aqara ones have tempriture but its way out. At least 8 if not 10 degrees centegrade.

I also gather than the Aqara ones batteries last longer but it is more dificult to get them open to get them open to replace the battery. The SONOFF do have a nice big battery so it may be the Door/Windows sensors that last longer.

In term of pairing once I moved the cordinater a few meters from my WiFi router they all paired easily. I like the fact that the Aqara ones have the pairing button on the outside so you do not need to open them up.

I generaly find the SONOFF sit a lot more dificult to open the first time but after that they are fine. Geting the battery protector of the Door/windows sensor was however a hightmare.

I also have read the Aqara stuff are better sealed so are the one to go for if you want to put them outside. Looking at the buttons I can see this easily. Less so with the motion sensors.

Wonder how people have found these two sensors?

My beef with the SONOFF sensors is it seems to take them a full 30 seconds or longer to reset it’s status after detecting motion which was a problem for me in some use cases. The physical size is appealiong, but like you said, taking it apart to replace the battery feels like you’re going to break the doggone thing. I haven’t tried the Aqara products as they all say they require an Aqara hub. Is this not the case?

I didn’t like either. I use Philips hue ones. They are expensive but I’ve never had any issues with them. Mine have been in use over 2 years now and the battery is still on 93%.
I thought that the battery sensor was reading wrong so I checked them with a multimeter……the battery sensor is working fine :grinning:

The Athom radars are cheaper than the Hue ones, they are fast, and you can flash ESPHome to them. No reason anymore to buy anything else, if you can run 5V to them via a USB were.

No, mine seem fine.

No they work fine with the SONOFF dongle & IKEA plug/routers, and I gess other standard zigbee controler/routers.

Can you put a link to these. I cant finds them. For some of mine posering from USB is apealing as I am starting to get a lot of zigbee stuff and not having to change batteries is verry apealing.
