Zigbee motion sensor recommendations

What integration? Z2M does firmware upgrades on some devices.

I recommend (based on personal experience) Philips Hue (indoor and outdoor) motion sensors. Rather expensive, but hazzle-free installation and operation.

You weren’t kidding those are expensive. For that price i would rather use a either an inovelli or Zooz Zwave sensor.

I just use the standard ZHA integration

Looks like a No Go on the hub firmware upgrade. The new Linkind motion sensors that don’t work are on the current firmware version (Firmware: 0x51230002). The older working firmware version is (Firmware: 0x510d0002). I sent an email to their support but they dont seem to want to do anything if you dont use their hub. Hopefully they will get back to me about downgrading firmware but I wont hold my breath.

Just installed mine and it has the bad firmware. Did you ever get an answer on how to upgrade or downgrade?

Yes! Their support is more than happy to help even if they are a little slow. You do need their hub though :frowning: Pair the bad firmware devices to the hub then contact support and they can push older firmware out to you. I was genuinely surprised that they were willing to do that. Unfortunately due to their support being slow I had just returned my sensors when they got back to me.

Thanks!! I dont have there hub, just HA. Guess I have useless sensors then?

Unfortunately so. Unless someone in this community can figure out how to dump and flash the firmware. I did see their hub and a motion sensor on Amazon for ~27 bucks if you wanted to go that route. I haven’t found any other motion sensors that I like more than them. The Ring Gen 2 Zwave ones are freaking huge.

I use aquara motion sensor and I can highly recommend those. They are great motion sensors with illuminance function, so you can easily make automation to turn on lights when is dark.

Combine them with aquara smart plug acting as routers. You will need routers on zigbee netowrk as zigbee is by default mesh network.

Looks like they also screwed up their contact sensors :frowning: Just added 2 with the date code 2108 and they don’t populate any entities. The older Date code 2106 sensors work beautifully unfortunately i cant recommend them anymore due to this change, I know I can get support to roll back firmware for me because I have their hub but that’s not a good path forward. I guess I will be buying Aqara moving forward even though theyre almost double the cost/sensor of the Linkind ones (contact). I’m going to contact them and see if they can fix their firmware but that will take a long time to go through their supply chain IF they actually do something about it.

Philips Hue all the way for motion sensors. I have both indoor and outdoor, and i literally never have problems with them. The battery is mythical to the point it easily has gone on for 2-3 years already (outside motion).

All the other’s i tried are crappy. They just disappear, have long cool downs, limited vision, awkward to position, etc. Yes they are overpriced but it’s worth your time and effort. I don’t look at any other motion sensors.

Ok so i got hands on a linkind hub. Do you know what firmware version I should ask them to downgrade it to? Currently it is on 5.35 (0x51230002 on home assistant).

So fun change of pace. Updating the Zigbee firmware on my stick made all the new firmware contact sensors I have work.

My Linkind motion detector works great from day one. Seems it holds motion detected for maybe 30 secs, but goes on pretty quick.
Don’t know if it matters, but my model number is: ZS110040078 date code 2103.
Only downside to me is it takes a cr2450 battery . :frowning:

This Aqara motion sensor I bought to test, interesting.
It’s as fast as the rest of them, but has something called ‘Occupancy’ that works alongside the ias_zone type sensor, but holds for 10 minutes. So, after motion is detected then gone, it will go to off/undetected (the ias_zone entity) in a matter of seconds, but an entity called occupancy will stay in the state of ON for right at 10 minutes.
I also like the fact it checks and reports the lux lighting levels.

You should be able to fine tuning it in zigbee2mqtt. There are settings ( specific ) for a motion sensor that can be adjusted or just calibrated.

I can confirm, device show up and pair, detect motion and never go back…will send them back. I don’t want a device I have to get the custom hub for to then beg support to downgrade the firmware…
Guess HUE it is after all…

I’ve never looked back since changing to hue motion sensors. They just sit there, doing their thing, and not even bothering to use much battery power. Still at 100% after about 14 months.

You don’t have to trust in battery percentage for motion or temperature sensors. My indoor temperature sensors were showing battery percentage 100% after 12 to 14 months. But I noticed that sensors became frequently offline or they stopped reporting.
When I went to pair them I noticed that little led is barely flashing on pairing. I bought a new batteries and they are working with out any problems.
