Ok so I am running into the dreaded Sonso dropping off HA 1400 error
I am after some basic explanations
I have been a Sonos user for over 15 years - way before even HA existed
Back in those days there were issues with Sonos and broadcast storms - network hardwiring zone players via ethernet was seen as a no go and we were all told Sonos had it’s “own mesh” and to just use wifi.
I now have a mixed Sonos set up of 3 old S1 zone players, 4 x S2 zone players a Sonos Bridge (S1) and a Sonos Boost (S2) These were originally needed to spread my Sonos mesh throughout my house and use the old and new devices
I no longer use the Sonos app etc as they have ditched S1 support. I am a big user of Spotify connect and often stream directly to Sonos endpoints straight from the Spotify app. I want to use home assistant to directly control and stream to Sonos without ever entering the Sonos GUI/app ecosystem. I like music assistant and have linked up Spotify and UPnP end points including Sonos
Q1/ Does Music Assistant need the HA Sonos integration to stream to Sonos zone players?
Q2/ Does the HA Sonos integration depend on the Sonos mesh anymore?, or does the Sonos mesh just become irrelevant and each ZP just relies on it’s unique IP control and address as a UPnP endpoint?
(I guess the same question is also for how Sonos works with Music Assistant)
Q2b/ If Sonos mesh is now irrelevant am I best to plug the Zp’s in via ethernet or do I still keep them on wifi? One player (what used to be called “the primary” ZonePlayer is still plugged into ethernet. The others are wifi to avoid broadcast storms)
Q3/ Do I need the boost and bridge anymore if I am running both the official Sonos integration and Music assistant?
Q4/ Is a mixed S1 and S2 setup ok? Or should I sell my S1’s?
Q5/ What do I do about the dreaded “port 1400” aka “cannot reach ZPx, falling back to polling, functionality may be limited” problem?
Do I add some code into YAML to open ports?
If so what code?
I run a simple HAOS set up on a Intel Nuc
My wifi is robust there are no sub lans, Vlans etc etc everything is on the same Dynamic IP pool. The HA server has a static IP. The Zone players all have reserved IP addresses on my ASUS router clustered around the same area on my network
Thanks!!!
