Sonos State Always 'Playing"

Why would the State on my Sonos media player entity always show as “Playing”? I want to create an Automation to start some other devices when Sonos goes from ‘idle’ to ‘playing’. However, the State History in the more-info dialog for the Sonos always shows ‘playing’, even when I have manually paused/stopped it from either HA or the Sonos app.

Using the current build on hass.io. Functions with the Sonos through HA work fine when manually selected i.e. I can press Play/Pause on a switch card and everything works as expected.

Interestingly, the state-image on an image element detects the state correctly and changes the image if paused.

Should have also mentioned that in this case, the service I am running on Sonos is SiriusXM streaming, but it’s still stopped in the Sonos and Sirius apps.

I just tried this with Spotify, and don’t see the issue.

Hmmm. Tried it myself with a Spotify playlist. Here’s a screen snip:

So you can see that it’s showing “Playing”, even though it isn’t (the Play icon is showing, meaning it isn’t paused). If you look at the lower right of the screen grab, the green music notes have a slash through them, which is the image that displays on the Lovelace dashboard when it is Idle.

Strange. I’m thinking it’s something super obvious that I’m overlooking…

I think that can happen if you disable history recording.

Try to use the Developer Tools “States” panel to check the state.

I don’t think I have disabled state history recording, as I am not sure how that is even done, and I still get state history on other devices.

In the Developer Tools States, it is showing “paused”, both on the main screen and in the info dialog that comes up when you press the “i” button. But it is still showing as Playing on my dashboard card, as in the screen clip above.

Just following up to mark this as closed. Sometime between the 3rd and umpteenth restart of HA the problem resolved itself. I must be some kind of genius

I’m having exactly this same issue… What type of things did you try other than restarting?

No idea what solved it, as I mentioned, it just starting working after some restarts of HA. It’s been working OK now for almost 3 years.
