I have a tablet hanging on the wall as a dashboard. It concerns a Samsung Tab A8 (One UI Core 5.1.1 Android 13).
This tablet only runs the Compagnon app of Home Assistant and Tasker (I reset the tablet to factory settings and therefore only installed these 2 apps).
For a few weeks now, the tablet has suddenly started to run slowly (I noticed, among other things, a fan that should run smoothly on the screen, but suddenly runs in fits and starts… or not at all).
If the tablet is slow, I only have to close the Compagnon app and open it again. After this it runs smoothly again for a few minutes… Sometimes the problem resolves itself without doing anything?
Even running HA in a browser gives me the same problem, so problem not related to Compagnon app.
At first I thought that perhaps the dashboard contained too many animations and thus completely reworked it…but the problem persisted.
This morning I suddenly wondered whether the problem was really the tablet. And so I took the test…
I opened the same dashboard via the browser on 3 devices:
on the tablet
on my smartphone (Samsung A23
on my windows 11 laptop
The result: those famous fans suddenly started running slower on all devices!
Home Assistant runs on an Odroid N2+ with eMMc as storage (4GB RAM).
Is there a problem with the Home Assistant Operating System?
No problem, but you use case is not exactly compatible with HA.
HA is not serving data to the UI on a time critical plan, so other tasks can lower the update frequency of the UI.
You can lower the periods with low update frequency by using more powerful hardware, but even then there will be periods with fewer updates, like at night when the DB maintenance is running.
I’ve been having issues with Home Assistant in the last month or so, and suddenly my wall Tablet too.
The other morning I came down and found Fully Kiosk had gone back to factory settings, and then the other day the tablet stopped responding and had a ‘must be restarted’ message on it - it had never done that before, it’s been running for years.
Curious what’s going on. My HA is now randomly restarting (just the Core, I think, not the whole Pi).
Have you found the solution? I’m facing exact same issue - where Home assistant running on a tablet went veeery slow after few weeks of running smoothly. I tried removing all cache etc., but not sure if that will improve things… Very annoying.
