Hi,
I´m starting my smarthome from scratch, meaning I have not a single integrateable device in my household yet. Privacy is important to me so I know I will only use open source software, thats why I´m here.
What I want to do is mostly climate - Thermostats control and temp. / humidity sensors in every room as well as one outside inkl rain detection. One smoke and water detector would also be desireable.
Since the possible “integrations” list is enormous I´m really struggeling do find my path, but i came to a first unsecure conclusion, maybe you can correct me:
Typically sensors communicate with the vendor-specific Bridge, what I want to avoid for financial and privacy-reasons. Options here are especially devices supporting either zigbee or z-wave that communicate directly with my raspi via a USB-Stick?
Zigbee devices are still very common so I´m nearly at the same point of not knowing what to select. Do you have any suggestions for me? Are there Vendors who are known to work better with Home Assistant than others? Should I try to buy as many devices as possible from the same vendor or does this make no difference?
Thank you very much.
