Hello, I’d assume there’s already threads for this, but I couldn’t think of the right words to search for.
Over time I’ve gotten better and the little gremlins from early on are causing issues.
I’d like to wipe my install, and start over, then when I’m done for that day, do a backup, then restore my original backup so things are back to normal until I get another day to work on it again and repeat. Can this be done by just doing a full backup, then renaming the config directory, and go? Then just ose the backups after that? Hoping to avoid issues by asking people that have already learned what to and what not to do, thanks.
If you are running on a SD card then buy an extra one and switch them around.
It easy to cut power and replace the SD card to switch system and the extra SD card will always be nice to have as backup when finished with the process.
You could always take this opportunity to upgrade to better hardware. That would allow you to run both systems at the same time, and you can migrate over devices and automations one by one, easily using the old system for reference.
I did exactly this, migrating from HA Blue to a NUC, and it would spectacularly easy to accomplish. It also left me with VERY little outage.
Doing things your way will still leave you with some trouble for things like zigbee devices, which will only pair with one coordinator at a time AFAIK.
