I found that in my case, the problem was probably due to the ics_calendar integration from HACS (here’s the issue).
If anyone with the 12.3 issues (and a bricked systems), has successfully moved to 12.4 (skipping 12.3)… please share. I am really hessitant to upgrade (read: don’t want to spend more hours restoring HA).
FIXED here! As stated above, it had to do with outdated HACS modules. I updated them, did a reboot and then updated to 2024.4 and it works flawlessly. THanks guys!!
I took the risk and successfully moved from 12.2 to 12.4 (after taking an extra backup). I first made sure all integrations had been updated prior to the update. The update itself was a breeze!
you might want to correct this, not HACS is bricking the system, it is one of custom integrations downloaded with(!) HACS blocking your system ( like for example a specific version of the ics_calendar integration, meanwhile corrected)
This works for me. Thanks
Now I have this notification that I can resolve

Any idea ?
After i updated to 2024.12.1 it crash with “Loading Data”. I restore to last backup and everything was fine. Last Friday i updated to 2024.12.4 with core 14.1. Two days everything works fine but today it crash again. All HACS are updated to newest version. I checked my looks, only few runtime errors during KNX request.
I have no idea how to fix it.
Are the problems solved for you?
Cheers,
I´m experiencing this issue since 2024.12.4 (I guess) and the issue that I stuck at “Loading Data” is only from external. Everthing works good if I connect to HA via local IP. As soon as Iconnect from a public domain or Companion App from outside of the WLAN, I´m stuck.
I made some testing:
first I thought it was related to Cloudflare, but no! First test I made was to roll back to an older Backup (2024.10.2) which still work for me. Unfortunataly I have nothing in between… anyways. I was testing 2024.10.2 also with the latest Cloudflare Version is it works.
To rule out the possibility that some integration or add-on is causing the error I quickly create a new VM (normaly HA is running on “real” Hardware, but for the test a VM should be OK as well) with the latest HA Version and installing File Editor and Cloudflare as the only AddOns. The issue is still the same with just that “naked” HA Installation. I´ve rolled back the Core to 2024.10.2 and I was able to connect via public domain.
The is nothing related to this issue in any log. I was using ics_calender before but I´ve removed it couple weeks ago… this cannot be the course in my case.
Not sure how I should proceed now… It looks to me as a clear bug in the HA Core.
Thanks and regards,
Peter
Having same issue that keeps getting worse. Now local ip and Nabu.casa stuck. Why are we not getting help from the developers on this?
Versions
- Core2024.12.3
- Supervisor2024.12.0
- Operating System14.0
- Frontend20241127.8
It is very disappointing that a rogue AddOn can be able to take the system down in this way after an update. Stalling startup loop I gather. A lot of people have been caught out and disheartened by this, particularly less familiar uses. I felt the response to reported users issues was lack lustre.
Can those ‘in the know’ not create a guard against such an issue’?
I´ve tested the lastest Core Version 2024.12.5 w/o any AddOns (exept Cloudflare and File Editor) and the issue was exactly the same. I assume that neither Cloudflare nor File Editor are AddOns that cause in such problems.
Have you tried to deactivate IPv6 and adding a DNS manually? It nothing changed in my case, but I have the issue only from external connection. Local IP works fine for me. Maybe it will help in your case.
Cheers,
Peter
Update: I´m now again able to access HA via Cloudflare. I´ve just removed FritzBox Integration.
I have the same issue, tried to update from 11.3 to 12.5 but got the issue with History not working and went back to 11.3. Im running HA on a Odroid N2+ with a standard installation with all other sw (incl HACS) updated to the latest versions.
Wow, 2024.12.x makes Home Assistant useless and unreliable. I had to restore back to 11.3. (Thank you Tschnilo!)
I think I broke officially when I went from 12.3 to 12.4 but not positive on that since I try to keep up on the latest revisions and I remember doing an update a week ago and it seemed fine.
I would like to get all the new voice features.
I am running the latest supervised images on a pi4 in docker. I recently had to update my OS to bookworm and that went pretty clean.
The new HACs interface is useless since I can’t rely on it telling me if I need to update something. There used to be a section called updates. Now it is just a list of things that I cant sort.
I wonder when HASSIO will get this fixed. This has been too long (5 iterations?) Do they even know about the problem?
It seems that the errors are telling me that my client (companion or web) is timing out with invalid enquiries.
Same issue here from 11.3 to 12.5 - managed to figure it out that it was version 3.6.0 of Dwain’s Dashboard
I can confirm this is what fixed the issue for me as well. Dwain’s Dashboard which I was not using anyway.
Did anyone the Update 2025.1.x? Is the Loading Data issue fixed?
Hi there!
Did update the HA Core 2025.1.2 and now am stuck… So pls let the world know NOT to update anymore before issue is solved!!!
Hi
I upgraded to 2025.1.2 and got the dreaded Loading Data issue. Much of the system appeared to be working (data collection, automations etc). however, the user interface was not accessible.
Eventually, I logged in remotely and checked the log file. I found an error that indicated a syntax error in configuratiion.yaml Once I fixed that and rebooted, everything worked fine.
Thanks for the fix, it worked for me
I had this problem, I fixed it for me by upgrading HACS first, full reboot, then upgrade HA.
Before that, though, get back in once the GUI stopped loading and restore a backup, I had to catch a brief window on bootup before everything had loaded. If you catch that window, you can browse around even after the broken thing has loaded - just don’t refresh.
It might work to just upgrade HACS without restoring the backup if you can catch that brief bootup window.
