It took some effort, but I got the combination of generic ESP32 development boards from AliExpress and two Mitsubishi heatpumps (MSZ HR25VF and MSZ HR35VF) working. I used no level converters for the UART connection, and my boards have a voltage regulator, allowing them to get power directly from the CN105 connector, making for a compact installation.
