tl;dr: I’m looking to replace the Kevo 2 deadbolt in my detached workshop with something I can integrate with HA.
I’ve had a Kevo 2 deadbolt in my detached workshop since before I started using HA. It’s worked reasonably well–it eats batteries, but the “touch to lock/unlock” has been reliable with my phone as the “key.” I’d like to retain this functionality, if possible with better battery life.
What I can’t readily do with the current lock is monitor it using HA. I’ve had a few occasions where I inadvertently left it unlocked overnight, and I’d like to avoid this. What I’ve found indicates that it isn’t practical to do this with Kevo (though I’d love to hear that I’m wrong about that), hence looking for something else.
My shop is about 50’ from my house. It has a network connection to the house over fiber, and good WiFi. I have both Zigbee and Z-Wave dongles on my HA system, but that is in the house, so I’m not sure they’d have the range needed. I don’t have any Bluetooth connection out there, though I’m sure I could get the ESPHome Bluetooth Proxy set up out there. Location is southeastern US.
So in short, I’d like:
- Touch to open/close with my phone
- Monitor via HA
- Control via HA would be “nice to have,” but I don’t consider it necessary–at least right now.
- I’d really rather not need to key in a code to open/close
- I’m not too concerned about aesthetics or finish, but the current unit has a satin nickel finish, and I’d just as soon stay with something similar
Any suggestions here would be appreciated.
