Suggest System / Updates to show more info

I find that I don’t use the System > Updates page because, well, the same info is more conveniently available in the “Settings” button on the left-hand sidebar.

Could I suggest that the System > Updates page also display the currently installed version, and date when the update became available.

My use case:
I try to keep my systems up-to-date, but this sometimes introduces bugs. At the other end of the scale is the suggestion to only upgrade at the end of each month just before the next major update. Personally I would rather compromise by waiting a few days before installing an update (giving enough time for urgent bug fixes).

For example,

  1. ESPHome 2024.6.0 was released on 19th June 2024 - but 2024.6.1 was released the next day (obviously a bug fix). 2024.6.2 was released June 25, but today (June 26) I will leave that particular update.
  2. Home Assistant Core’s update pop-up shows me that 2024.6.4 became available 2 days ago - but in practice it was released on June 21. This counter resets whenever HA is rebooted, and so is less useful than it could be.

If you click on the entity, it shows you all that information.

I’m glad I run the Container version and thus don’t have the Updates page. Seems like “normal” users are prompted with far more updates than they should be making.

One HA a month for me, usually to try out new features, and ESPHome perhaps twice a year when I think about it.

EDIT: must be blind, I do have the page but there’s nothing listed on it. HA doesn’t update via that method, and I run ESPHome in a separate unrelated container that spends most of its time stopped. I do get updates showing for my Unifi gear and Synology NAS.

The update entities control all that. Supervisor just adds new updates when it see’s esphome addon updates. When the addon updates, the esphome update entities update and show a firmware update for all esphome devices.

Outside that, when you run docker, you still get update entities. You can even make your own. The update page is just a page that shows all update entities. You can make this page yourself if you want it. Regardless of that, update entities contain all the info OP is requesting. With the caveat that they don’t retain a last_updated state during restarts.

Do you seriously think I’ve never clicked on an update entity ? And, it doesn’t show when the update was released, which is the bit of information I’m really looking for.

Of course … thank you for some relevant useful information, even if it was replying to someone else.

Simple answer then is that we can’t use information we haven’t go. OK.
