Suggestions - Offline/local rooms on entertainment events

I’m creating a project to be used at festivals, concerts, geek conventions, and other entertainment events.

With large crowds, at least 40,000 people, the 5G network may become congested, and the event producers likely won’t provide access to wired internet, so I can’t rely on internet-dependent devices.

I’m considering using LocalTuya for the project. Currently, I have several Sonoff switches and sensors at home connected through Sonoff’s ZBBridge (which I know requires internet and won’t work for this project). I also have some Tuya lights, and I’ve noticed that when there’s no connection, even if I’m connected to Wi-Fi and using the HA app, sometimes I can’t control the lights.

For the event setup, I need the following items in the room, with the ability for users to adjust them as they wish:

  • Addressable LED strips for the ceiling
  • Cold light strips or switches for additional lighting
  • CCTV/NVR system to monitor the room and the front desk, capable of storing at least 2-3 days of video, viewable in real time on a Windows computer, and displayable on a TV. The CCTV system should use RJ45 (Ethernet) if Wi-Fi becomes unreliable.
  • Two tablets, one in the room and one at the front desk, to control the devices. Ideally, these would use a Lovelace dashboard with a restricted user account that can’t alter any configurations.
  • Controllable AC unit (preferably without infrared control)
  • Diffuser, connected via smart plugs
  • Fiber optics, possibly Bluetooth-controlled (like this example).

What solutions do you suggest to control these devices without relying on external internet? Also, are there any devices that can be hardwired to the Wi-Fi modem to ensure operation if Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity becomes too congested in the room?

What you’re proposing ignores two crucial facts:

  • Even in a home environment, WiFi can be flakey and is not recommended for stability if you’re basing your server off it.

  • Even assuming the above is not the case and you’re dealing with only local traffic, WiFi interference is very real. Multiply that by 40000 phones searching for a WiFi signal in the background. Now double that to include Bluetooth which runs on the same frequency.

I would rethink your plans. You’re trying to use a home solution for something which is strictly within a commercial environment. Basically the odds of any command making it through and switching on a device are around 80,000 to 1.

With such crowd forget it with Wifi and Radio system in same band ! If you don’t need a real time interaction, perhaps LoRa can be an option but might be tricky to find some RGB controllers working in LoRa :confused:
