Sunsa Blinds Wands Integration

@odwide oh…that does not sound good. Ok - thanks. Will see what tech support at Sunsa provides. So - FYSA - I am on hold to install your integration until that happens.

@odwide I heard back from Sunsa Tech Support on the App failing on the API toggle. Their guidance was to “generate a new API” and just keep going. They further passed this issue on to their engineering team.

So - with that solved (sort of) moving to the next effort: With the new API and UserID, and already having HACS installed, followed your install guide (GitHub - r01k/ha_sunsa: Sunsa smart blinds integration for Home Assistant) and whamo! The Sunsa Integration was installed with no issues. I tested several functions: open, close, open a percentage, etc…all worked flawlessly. And in several cases, much faster than the Sunsa Android App.

so - THANKS !

Next - yes, I would now double vote for this suggestion/discussion: (Sunsa Blinds Wands Integration - #10 by odwide).

You just gotta like it when something just works!!

And again - THANKS !

Glad that you got all sorted out! Sunsa support is very responsive. Now, onto setting up your automations and organizing the dashboards.

Ok, now I have more motivation to find out how to make the change. I’ll ask other HA devs about it and report back about feasibility.

I second @dwdonnelly in his request as well. It would be great to be able to use the full functionality of sunsa within HA dashboard (tilting in both directions/percentage). I havent found a good solution for this yet and I think its mainly due to how blinds are defined it HA. I have some automations set up using the service call but my wife likes more granular control so she ends up using the sunsa app. Not a deal breaker but it would be great to have it all within HA.

Maybe there’s custom card out there that allows to close the blinds in any direction. Another user-friendly option could be to create an input number helper as a slider and hook it to an automation to move the blinds directly with it.

This is awesome! I just found this integration and am so thankful for someone developing the integration. I really appreciate your hard work! I’ve been using the REST APIs as a work around, but it sure makes my config file messy.

I too would like to vote for the change to _tilt. I think it makes more sense as the gradient better represents blinds fully open, partially open, all the way to fully closed.

One thing I noticed is that HA assumes close down as the normal behavior. The integration is working correctly as I have the default behavior set to close up, but that means the buttons on the Lovelace (Grace?) cards are reversed. For example, the blinds show as closed and the button shows it can be opened with an up button. Is there a way to reverse this behavior to match the default in the app?

Thanks again for all your work!

Just curious how the reliability of the wand is and how you all like these in general?

Thanks! The opening direction of the frontend GUI is not changeable in HA I believe. I see the same with my blinds (although they are all vertical). The Up button always opens them despite the closing direction.

The _tilt features deal has been on the back of my mind for a while. Researching again now. Last time didn’t get much traction.

Reliability is about 9/10 in my case. The only issue I have is that rarely a wand shows the wrong connection state on the Sunsa app, which causes the integration to mark it unavailable. Seems to be related to their backend. I’ve talked to Sunsa but neither them or I have pushed the matter much because the glitch fixes by itself minutes later or just by rebooting the wand.

The wands have consumed 70% of battery in a year.

All in all I like them and have become deeply ingrained in our smart home.

Thanks - I have “old” My Smart Blinds (or Tilt My Blinds) and they generally work very good, but they recently stopped selling them so I am just looking at the future and what’s available. I like what I have because everything is hidden…but just curious what else is out there.

Thank you. Have been looking for this for a while.

Created an account just to comment and thank you

With this integration, is HA talking directly to the device, or is it dependent on the Sunsa cloud?

Cloud-dependent. Sunsa has said they will support Matter, but who knows when.
