This is my first experience with Home Assistant and Raspberry Pi.
I have followed the instruction under Getting Started and it suggests all I need is the hassos flashed to an SD card, but after following those instructions and nothing worked I started searching more and it seems I need a Rasbin OS (which makes sense) before I can install Home Assistant.
My question is if I flash the OS to the SD card as instructed, how do I then Flash the hassos to the same card without losing the OS? Again I am a super Noob to all of this please be patient with me.
Flashing the SD card is all you need. How long did you wait after powering on your pi? It takes a loooooong time to come up the first time. I believe it is downloading some docker images and potentially other things. I had to just walk away and just leave it for a while which was less immediately gratifying for those of us who are impatient.
Hi gsterry.
I’m using RPi3B with Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections.
Even with 1000Mb LAN install process takes about 1/2 hour before the Lovelace come to make a user.
Flash the SD card. Put it in the RPi SD Slot. Power on. And wait. Patience - that’s matter.
And believe me the HassOS is the better choice for noobs like me.
I’ve tried all the written installs over Raspbian OS (because of 7" touchscreen I have). I have made all of them. But non of them is working fast as HassOS. If there is an option to add Gui to HassOS it will be wonderful. And maybe I’ll be the one of the first users ho will try it. But for now… - HassOS.
Thank you both for responding. I can definitely say I did not wait very long. haha. I have a slow isp so I will leave it alone for at least 1 hour or more and see what happens.
Just to be safe I formatted the card and flashed a new copy of hasso and just booted it up. Wish me luck lol
