Supported setup to allow install of other apps/docker containers

Supported setup to allow install of other apps/docker containers along with home assistant.

I’ve been running a RPI4 with Debian installation and Home Assistant supervised method. Everything is working great. However as of recently Home Assistant is complaing that it’s not supported setup. I understad completely BUT I"m looking for a supported method that allows me to run HA along with some other apps/docker containers I use. I find it a waste of money and hardware if need to have a dedicated hardware setup to make this happen.

The things I run on the Rpi4:

  • Home Assistant
  • Portainer (Master → connects to other docker containers)
  • Pi-hole
  • DSMR reader (docker)

So my question is how can i run a supported setup and make use of these application/docker containers a long with HA. Without having the risk to get it unsupported again in the near future.

HA Container or HA Core (venv). But I would not worry to much about the ‘unsupported’ status.

You can’t have it both ways.
Run your components as HA addons or run the Container installation.

Even Homeassistant OS complains it is unsupported if you run docker apps on the side. Just ignore the message.

@ alexbelgium has been making a ton of homeassistant addons of docker containers. I plan to switch to his versions of things I run on the side. He also has been updating more often than frenck. Maybe he will take requests for things you want.
