Surplife BLE Device

Hi all,

I just got some Christmas decorations that use the Surplife app. I saw that it looks like HA supports the magic home integration, however these lights are BLE only and do not show up in the magic home app. Is there any known way to get these to work in HA? I’ve tried the LED BLE integration, but nothing shows up. Any help would be appreciated otherwise I need to teach my broadlink all the IR codes for this.

Are you sure the device you have do not support both BLE and WiFi? You might have a look at this github work, link below. There seem to be some reports that some Surplife device use the BL602 chip, while more complicated, if that is so on yours and your are both BLE and Wifi, if might be possible to replace the firmware in the device with the Open Beken firmware. Link below. I have not experience with any devices with a Surplife branding, however I have been successful converting BL602 devices to Open Beken. Good hunting!

It doesn’t support WiFi.

Well, in that case base on my fumbling around with ‘similar’ devices, still two routes, neither probably ‘easy’ depending on your experience and stuberness

  1. see if you can figure out the BLE GATT messages needed to control the device (fingers crosses the developers did not understand and implement any encryption)

  2. break open the device and see if the chip is one that can be flashed with a replacement open firmware.

or I guess 3rd, punt and find a device that is alread ‘cracked’ to all open control, and just add these device to your ‘bottom drawer’ of mistakes/lessons

Good hunting!

Sounds like option #4, forget the BLE and just use IR codes via broadlink it is (unless a developer can help me with option #1.

Yes, the infrared route appears to be another option from the description of your device. That said, IR is full of ‘pot holes’ along this way as well, however it is an option…

I have been experimenting with zigbee MOES battery powered IR ‘blaster’ (link below) with zigbee2mqtt (it’s 2 X AAA battery powered ability and low cost seem to be useful route to deploy one in a number of rooms in the house at a relatively low cost), there are a number of other routes to go down the rabbit hole of IR blasting as well.

Fundamental philosophy of technology : ‘we try all paths, they all sux, then we die’
Good hunting!
