I want to switch over to an ethernet based ZigBee stick so that I can share it over my network and allow for host migration in a Proxmox cluster.
Right now I’m using a Sonoff ZB Dongle 3.0 plus USB. It’s great and has never failed me. It’s plugged into my main Proxmox host and supplied as USB pass through. I have about 30-40 devices in my network currently. This may double in future.
Would the SLZB-06 be a suitable Ethernet replacement?
It looks to be the same chip as the Sonoff USB, has future support for Matter/Thread . Is a reasonable price and has PoE and usb . There are a number of variants which is confusing.
The Z2M supported coordinators list a lot of options which is overwhelming. And they differ a lot in price. Some are £100~ whilst others are more reasonable at £30-40~
Or can I repurpose my existing Sonoff USB? I have a switch with PoE support.
Yes I am, but only because I offer advice and test multiple scenarios. I converted my USB Sonoff E to a repeater. ZigBee is a mesh system so as long as you have enough devices that route, one coordinator will suffice.
I’ve been using the SLZB-06 for several months and have had no problems. I got it for the same reason - to connect to HA on a Proxmox cluster VM. It’s also nice that it doesn’t need to be near the cluster.
I’ve not done it, but I think you would need to repair all of the devices. As the SLZB-06 uses a different chip to the Sonoff Dongle.
I think the SLZB-06M uses the same chipset as the Sonoff Dongle which may give you more look to migrate more easily without repairing. But haven’t tried or tested this. Going off what I’ve read so far.
Just recently migrated from Sonoff ZigBee 3 Dongle Plus to SLZB-06p7 with ZHA everything went fine did not have to repair one device the web interface is great. Really like these devices.
