Switch to bigger SD Card - Hassio, Raspberry Pi

Hi,

I’d like to switch to a bigger SD card.

There are two ways (which I know) how to to this:

  • new install and restore backup
  • backup an image of the SD-Card and flash it to the new card with something like etcher

I’d prefer second, but I’m not sure if the new size will be usable if I restore a smaller image.
So for instance my SD card has 32 GB. The image will have 32GB. If I resore this image to a 64GB Card, will the system be able to use the additional 32GB?

I also ask this because my pihole 4GB SD card broke some days ago and I restored an image to a 16GB SD. So same question here. Are those additional GB usable?

sudo raspi-config

then option 7 Advanced options and then option A1 expand filestystem.

Thank you! This worked in my pihole raspi running Stretch lite.

But unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work with hassio?
It says

-bash: sudo: command not found

Sorry, I didn’t notice the hassio reference. hassio is a completely different OS, so I can’t help there.

You should move this to the hassio category of the forum as you should get more help there.
