Switching USB power on the Raspberry Pi

I was working on some better integration between my 3D printer and Octoprint setup and came across a neat trick for controlling the power state of the USB ports on the Raspberry Pi (4 in my case). It strikes me that this approach might be more useful than just my application for controlling dumb devices which get power via USB:

Let me know what you think and what uses you could put this to!
