Switching Z-wave controllers

Hello All,

My Z-wave network is up and running with the Aeotec Gen 5 Zwave Plus USB stick. I have another USB stick HUSBZB-1.

I want to switch to HUSBZB-1 from the Aeotec stick. Is it just a matter of swapping the sticks or should I re-setup my zwave network with the new stick.

Any input on smooth transition would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

You have to either unpair everything from the Aeotec or just factory reset each device. Then repair with the HUSBZB.

I would personally recommend sticking with the Aeotec for Z wave. There is a backup utility (LINK) that is completely seperate from Hass that allows you to back it up. Your stick could break, you buy a new one, and restore your Z wave network as if nothing happened.

I personally have this same setup with two sticks. I just don’t use z wave on the Nortek stick.

Thanks for the input and the link. I will probably go the same route I think.

If you unpair each device, how will a repair work? Or do you mean resetting each device and doing a repair?

Either way, this will require you visiting each device again?

You can do either really. If you unpair each device it will easily repair with your new stick. Or you could just factory reset each device and then pair it with the new stick. If you’re going to run some kind of hybrid dual stick environment for a period of time, I’d suggest the unpairing part first so the old stick doesnt keep trying to find the old component when its actually paired with a different stick.

I’m glad to be making this switch before I have too many z-wave devices. Part of my justification for buying the nortek was to sell the aeotek and recoup some of the cost of the nortek. I don’t have that many z-wave devices yet so I’ll just un-pair and re-pair. Adding some Keen smart vents soon so I needed to add zigbee capability to HA.
