Gabe, so true.
I just bought a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM, thinking 16G would be enough. As the guy was ringing it up, I said, eff it, another stick of RAM. So now, 32G of RAM, RAM to burn.
Will order it tomorrow, thanks.
I have a bunch of Lenovo tab 4 8" white tablets mounted on my walls. They are surface mounted using velcro command strips, with power provided via the 12 alarm wiring in my house (they largely replaced the old alarm keypads). I use some low-profile 90-degree micro USB plugs cannabilised from wireless charging adapters. Actually all looks quite neat…
I thought about doing it with a tablet surface mounted. I don’t know about Lenovo but the inexpensive tablets have terrible charge controllers and just don’t do well constantly plugged in. Also with 4 kids 5 and under I was worried they would rip the surface mounted tablet off the wall. With it being flush there is nothing to grab onto. Although they do try to smack it with whatever toy they can reach it with. It’s held up nicely so far…
Mine have been up for over 3 years with no issues. They are high enough to be out of reach of a <5yo!
Nothing is out of the reach for my twin 3 year old boys. Think “Thing 1” and “Thing 2” from Cat In The Hat! They sleep in a bedroom that only has two mattresses on the floor because of the mayhem they get into with furniture lol. But in the future I plan to put a display upstairs so they can manage the temperature of each one of there rooms.
Gabe,
Are you using an SSD on the Pi?
Frank
No in my case the RPI is just the front end. Hass is running on a server in my basement.
Same nearly. I have HA Core on TrueNAS, with Mosquitto, ESPHome, TasmoAdmin, and a few others, but I didn’t want the Pi to die because of an SD carking it. An SSD runs a lot quicker than either an SD or USB drive.
Which version of LineageOS are you running? Mine is 17 and it won’t boot into TWRP recovery even with advanced boot option enabled. Just about to try the GPIO pin 21.
Did you use the scripts to force it into TWRP recovery?
No, but I am all ears. I didn’t know such a thing existed.
I am trying to use the Mini Player Card in the Fully Kiosk Browser on a Fire 8. I get an error custom element doesn’t exist.
Any special configuration you needed to do in HA? Are you using the free version of FKB or a Plus license?
EDIT: Well I tried a newer Fire 8 tablet I had and it works just fine. I guess my other one is just too out of date with some of the files needed to display these controls.
Glad you worked it out. I would have assumed it would have worked on any Fire Tablet. Good to know!
I am thinking of Galaxy Tab A7 for wall dashboard.
I am wondering if the built-in camera can be used to show what is going on at home when I’m away.
Can the view be shown on HA dashboard?
I had Galaxy tablets in 5 bedrooms, and yes the camera can be used.
I integrate all mine through FKB, but use the generic camera integration for the cams.
