Tablet going to sleep when screen off

OK - interesting one…

Telcast P30 tablet. Running Android 14. Cheap.
FullyKiosk and HA are on there and I’m using AutoStart App Manager to run them on start up.

I am trying automation to turn the screen off when I’m not around.

All well and good until I hit a set of circumstances…

When there is no power applied, so it’s on battery and the screen is off… after half an hour the tablet goes into a deep sleep and nothing works or reports until I press the power button on the tablet.

I’ve even gone into developer mode on the tablet and there’s nothing much I can find in there to help. Both apps have administrator privs on the tablet.

I’m literally down to flashing the screen on and off every 20 mins, which is a very nasty kludge.

It looks like this issue is down to “Doze Mode” which can be overridden on some devices, but not all. There are some options to root the device and use scripts to kill it, but that’s a little insane.

Fully Kiosk have discussed this with me and the last ditch suggestion is to enable the fully kiosk screen saver (paid version) and that is working at 0% brightness and using that, Fully Kiosk is able to keep the tablet awake but rather than switching the screen off, I’m turning the screen saver on. It looks like this is going to be the best option in my case.
